Stone and Candle is long-term photographic project examining the ancient monasteries of Armenia.

These monasteries, some of the earliest of the Christian world, were centers of education, where art and science flourished and in whose scriptoriums monks created beautiful illuminated manuscripts.

With their high vaulted ceilings and arches, cupolas, and narrow windows, built from the surrounding stone, volcanic tuff or basalt, they stand as timeless monuments of faith, devoid of crowds, open to the winds, and silent.
